I have read many of reviews about this hotel. Most are not good. Has this hotel cleaned up since the renovation and management change? I dont want to stay in a scrappy hotel for my birthdau.

If your birthday deals with running up and down the halls disturbing other people. Then this place is not for you. But the rooms are great and the continental breakfast is great.

Yes it's a good place to stay

We stayed for 5 days in the beginning of June. There were still some things under maintenance. We had one of the newly remodeled rooms. The construction was poor and there were already dings in the wall, but it was clean and comfortable. The staff was a little discourteous, but we didn't really need them. We did not see any shady things going on and all was quiet. I think we would stay there again if ever back in St Louis. Hope this helps and hope you have a good birthday!
