I called this morning as I had the same issue with needing a Zip code to book tickets with my card. I was told they could not take my card over the phone either and I would have to go to the box office instead. I have now booked with Epic cinemas who except a UK postcode in the zip code section, much cheaper too.. AMC need to move with the times
Great question. Call them or email them with the same question. I'm guessing the zip code is a form of verification because of the card you are using to pay,

You can try it first, Put all your information if is out of state or country, your Visa, Master Card etc. especially that..They need to verify if your card matches with your address. Take a photo of your transaction for your own records.
I’m not sure. We tried it last night and put in the Zip code of the hotel we are staying at but it wouldn’t except our card when we went to pay it
