You can walk around without a tour, but there is a fee. Best to take the tour. You get a lot of history. Be sure to climb the watch tower. Great view of the fort.
No. It is a guided tour. It is about an hour and a half long. A great experience! Also, you can get a discount at Taberna del Caballa if you eat there after your tour.
