I don't know the exact measurements, but yes the true spot is not correct, but this what the 4 states recognize, if you commit a crime on that corner you will wreak havoc lol
There are many reasons Google Maps do not line up. This issue occurs all over the globe. It is very noticeable at 4 Corners becuase US Congress defined in law two different locations for the SAME place. This happened all the way back in 1875. This is a excellent example of the difference of scientific correctness and legally correct. The correct location of the monument has always been know to be off becuase Congress messed up by defining two different spatial datumns and the inaccuratcy of the survey methods at the time. But all legal parties involved have agreed to the placement... so it is official.
Does it really matter unless your a scientist? The only places you can stand & be in 4 different states at once!!!
dad
The monument exists today exactly where surveyors set it in 1875 with non electric and non computrrized surveying tools of that time. Abraham Lincoln ordered the west boundary of new Mexico to be established, at 32 degrees west of the Washington meridian, terminating on the north end at the intersection of the previously surveyed south boundary of Colorado. Like most surveyors monuments, the four corners monument is backed by law where it exists.
To answer the question about the actual site of 4 corners and plate tachtonics and such...the key word is....area. just go there to the 4 corners monument site and say you were in the area. Because...you were.
If you look back onto Google GPS it shows the true lines of each state. What do you think?
Haven't heard that, but officially the current area is where all the states meet.
What does the surveyors marks say?
I am not sure
Visit a Taco Bell or if coming from Chicago, bring a few white castles and try it
