Alta is a really great ghost town with a neat history including a test site for Nikola Tesla. The drive up to the ghost town requires almost 4 miles of national forest road, which is pretty rough, but the trip is totally worth it! There are also hiking trails and primitive camping available. The ghost town buildings have private property signs on them, so it's difficult to tell what is public land vs private property, but it's clear someone does not want people in the buildings!

Near little area to take a break on your drive up. Let your car cool down a bit. Especially the transmission

Interesting place to visit and take some photos. There are no bathrooms or anything else here, it’s a ghost town and exactly what we drove here to see. The road wasn’t too rough but narrow and rocky in a few spots. Probably wouldn’t try it in anything but a capable SUV or something.

A lot of the buildings have collapsed, but what's still there is pretty cool to see. Keep going up and there's a beautiful lake and camping area. The road up isn't exactly car friendly, I'd want something with a little more ground clearance than my Grand Prix had as I scraped the bumper and the underside of it more than a few times. Definitely worth the time to go see and or stay if you're camping

Why wouldn't there be ghosts haha, but something cool that I didn't notice at first is that Nikola Tesla worked there for a long time, there is a plaque on the larger building that gets more into detail.
