Well, first off I completely agree with you vets should be shown some support too, but since they run completely off donations and volunteers I can also understand it's not feasible for them to accept every person that is and has ever served. They focus on those actively serving and are doing a fantastic job. I am grateful to have such an amazing benefit while serving and will understand when the time comes and I retire the they can only focus on those actively serving.
Since when? Since inception! Their mission IS and ALWAYS HAS BEEN to serve active duty members. They accommodate retirees and 100% disabled and their accompanying dependents on a space available basis. There are over 18 million veterans. If you include their dependents, siblings and parents and adult children (all of whom also want to be served) then you're talking close to 100 million. The USO is staffed by volunteers and funded by donations. They already need more of both to serve all those they have committed to in the manor they wish they could. So unless you are going to donate the millions it would take to expand their operations, maybe you might want to rethink your unreasonable expectations Oh, or better yet! Become a volunteer at your local USO. Then you would likely be allowed in. They have money to pay rent or many salaries. Their spaces are donated by local airportsm They are not funded by the military or government.
The USO is a benefit for active duty. Same with any other active duty benefit. Allow another group to use that benefit and it takes away from serving in the military. The USO isn't some airport lounge to be used and abused.
It's an OutPost for active duty personnel. There's a minimum clearance level for entry due to the sensitive nature of what they do.
