I guess it would depend on the day. We made them as early as the same day. Within a few hours even.
I have made one the same day but earlier in the day. When I got there I noticed they were busy (like because of a recent voucher) so depending on the occasion and if something is going on or not I was say same day or preferably the day before for personal occasions but if some publicly shared event is going on that would draw larger crowds I would try at least two weeks in advance.
