Itβs always best to identify yourself, from what I seen, at the counter you donβt require it. E-tickets, print at homes, pre-paid tickets and Will Call tickets require identification.
I believe if you buy your ticket at a Booth with cash you don't need Identification. When you have a ticket purchased online , or over the phone that you recieve via email and print out is when Id is required.
For amtrak, i experienced getting a ticket. They requires id to vertify who you are. For greyhound, i am not sure if greyhound and amtrak are rules to ask for id. I believe that greyhound will ask you for id.
If you buy the ticket at the station in cash, then no. If you order online or will call then yes.
It's always best to show who you are.
