I just received a car from a relative as a gift, can I register that car in my name?

Do you have the ability to get the pink slip signed over to you by the owning relative? If you can get that, then I would also recommend that you have the relative make out a "bill of sale" to you, saying that they sold it to you for $100. (or possibly $75 - a nominal amount); otherwise you will probably have to pay the State Sales Tax on the car and a registration fee based on the car's Blue Book value. The State may have worked around one or both of those loopholes by now, to take away those tax benefit from you, but it is certainly worth the try. If you can NOT get the pink slip from the owner, then your task to get it registered to you will be much, much more difficult. Talk to a AAA agent, in the vehicle registration department. They will certainly be your best source of knowledgeable help with this.
