The best time for an HVAC tune-up are twice a year, one beofre summer and one before winter.

I was told twice a year... At the beginning of Spring and the beginning of Fall

I would suggest about 1-2 months before you need it. Get on a schedule of every 6 months for the furnace/AC tune ups.
