I would like to surprise my daughter for this surprise visit she was longing for, but I would like to stay overnight in the area. Any recommendations to stay and maybe see other things? Greatly appreciated.

Here Victorville we hav a Holiday Inn & a Hilton hotel. Victorville is surrounded by Nat'l Parks. Short distance to Palm Spring U will find an Indian reserved w many beautiful trails. From 1hr. to all day. ENJOY!

Just stay in LA or surroundings, it's close enough

There are no hotels in the area where the wolf sanctuary is. The closest town/cities with hotels/places to stay would be victorville and big bear. Big bear might be a bit expensive to stay in since it's a touristic town so if your looking for a place to spend the night that would be cheaper, then your better off staying in the victorville area, which is a 15-25 min drive from the sanctuary The alpine zoo in big bear is a really cool place to check out.

Not sure about Lodging but definitely go to Burger Depot in the area!
