Let’s say i buy vip tickets for the seating area up top, will i be able to sit with my friends if we buy our tickets at separate times? Or do we get assigned seats? Should we all buy our tickets at once to be safe?

Some shows are assigned seating, some are general admission in the VIP balcony. You'll have to talk to whichever ticket vendor you purchase your tickets from.

I recommend you to call directly to The Novo office and make sure if the show that you want to go will have numerated seats or will be open seats. Every show it's different.

The balcony isn't assigned seating as far as I'm concerned. So you and your friends should be fine, but i would go early to make sure seats don't fill up.
