Define near? Not at Auga Caliente or really very close. This county park is surrounded mostly by the ABDSP and other protected areas. (It is also complicated, lots of BLM and Forest Service in the region, all up and down S2, but much of that has special environmental protection...) Superstition is about 45 minutes away, and like an hour for Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area. I saw a family get kicked out because their kids wouldn't stop starting theirs. (They wanted to burn pallets too, they were gone on the second warning.) It is an expensive ticket in the ABDSP and they may make you remediate ($$$) any ground that is destroyed. Probably better just to go to Ocotillo Wells.
Not legally on public land as far as I know. I have looked and I couldn't find anything within an hour away. All OHV requires licensed hiway vehicle.
