They are in fact non of the above answer with no visible ants the are not from snakes do to the lack of arms or feet to create any such mound armadillos do not create mounds. Moles are close but moles make tunnels not mounds. They are from pocket gophers the are the size of a squirrel with no tail. Harmless and rarely seen most often the create lots of mounds do to they come out of one and reburrow in another they cover the openings to keep predators from easily finding them.
The mounds are from Gopher Tortoise who are protected by the state.
Observe the opening, how big is the hole? Now, investigate the likely animals or insects. Ants are usually walking in ans out frequently. Many holes are actually snake dens be careful.
Those are usually moles, they seem to be more active when the weather is cool at night
