It's not mandatory to wear a suit, but it is helpful to look presentable in your best clothes for the first photo. You can always take various concept photos afterwards and bring them in on Tuesdays. For example, nerdy look, athletic look, gangster or thug, blue collar dude, traditional ethnic clothing such as a Dashiki or a Kurta, etc.
No this is for teenagers who like to stay on Facebook all the time they make you wait all this time and do pictures and do all this stuff but they only take the first 50 to 60 and then you have to come back for different poses shots but you have to say on Facebook or Twitter to see what type of job leads they have and you have to be Union for the good pain and non-union gets hourly minimum wage
These days, they take a full-body shots, so you may want to wear dress shoes and not sneakers. 'Dress to impress' is their motto.
No some people are casual but 98 % are dressed in their best up scale look. This is what the casting director will see when they look you up in the computer. What if it's a wedding scene or you are going out to dinner in an expensive restaurant? Can they picture you in a suit? Probably not. And do you have any nice clothes? Makes them wonder. You have to have a lot of clothes in this business. You will be told to bring 2 or 3 changes to set. Casting people don't take chances. They will cast the sure thing. Remember, everyone in Hollywood is nervous anout their job, especially casting.
