It depends on what kind of disability you are receiving. You need to take your award letter, from SSA, to the child support office and talk to your case manager. There is also a program called COAP, that you may qualify for. It also depends on who the balances are owed to, the State or the custodial parent. This program can reduce your balances quite a bit, if you qualify. Good luck

If the arrears are owed to the state, there is a program called COAP to help lower the balance. Call your case manager to find out if you are eligible.

You have to contact both social security and child support services. I have never known arrears to be dropped. You can however ask to get the payments adjusted with in your means. For them to be dropped , the custodial parent would have to sign off on the debt forgiving it. You will have to do a earnings and expense and file it with child support in order to initiate a payment reduction.
