I would talk to a vet. Dogs change over time as they advance in age. Before you give her up, try and find out what's wrong, as she has been your family member for 9 years. The shelter won't take her back after this much time. She's YOUR dog. The shelter is over full at this time. There is no room.
Take her to the vet dont just give up on her and give her up. Shes been in your family for 9yrs if shes suddenly aggressive that means something has changed or something is wrong and shes unable to speak to tell you. We have a 14yr pug and hes aggressive but its because hes in pain and hes old but medication has helped a lot. So this too could be her case. Find a solution to address the problem before u go and dump her and give up. No animal deserves to lose their family. We as ppl are able to speak to a dr and say whats wrong with us what hurts what doesnt work right animals do not have that same capability. Thats why we as pet owners need to be the voice for them.
If this is a new behavior take her to a vet immediately. It is most likely caused by a medical condition at her age.
