Can't add much to what's also been added other than to say that Stockton seems very compassionate and we'll supported by the veterinary community. While not legally bound to take your cat (they could decide not to let you adopt again--not likely) they want your cat cared for. If that can't happen with you, they'd rather you bring her in than let her go. Sometimes returned aggressive cats can be socialized by staff. Sometimes it's just a matter of not having kids, other pets, or even the physical environment. Once this is determined, the cat will be placeable.
It depends upon how crowded they are generally they will take back pets that have been adopted if there is an aggression problem but be mindful that that animal may be put down if it cannot be adopted.
