Any vet will scan the dog for a chip for free. Try a local emergency vet since most are closed if you want to do it tonight. Start there then Please post the dog on Nextdoor. It may be a neighbors dog and so many people are members of the social networking page. If your able to temporarily keep the dog (up to 30 days) please do so but contact the shelter during business hours tomorrow to make a report of the dog in case someone contacts the shelter looking for it. Go door to door and ask neighbors if its theirs or if they know who it may belong to. Post the dog on craigslist, the facebook group lost and found pets 209 is amazing at reuniting pets and lostmydoggie.com allows you to post for free, sends out a fax to local vets etc. Its alot of stuff but worth it to help pup get home and it feels so good when you are able to reconnect them with their family. Join Nextdoor, the private social network for neighborhoods, and start connecting with your neighbors. nextdoor.com/!ANNEBU
Just found out Sherriff and Police often have chip scanners with them in cars. Pound will scan for free and give address to return the dog. Good luck
Re Nextdoor. There is no nextdoor in my area.95215 HOLLENBECK Rd x hwy 4. Tried to start one but to get 25 households (or whatever the minimum # was) I had to draw a map that covered 25 square miles. That was too big for Nextdoor. Wouldn't let me do it.
