Park at the bottom parking lot and stroll along the creek as far as he can handle
The only way a three year old can do that hike is if you carry him.
There are multiple trails from thebsame trail head, some loop and some to and back ones. I believe there is something for everyone
I believe it's 5-6 miles from top to bottom. If you are starting at the bottom, it's reasonable grades for the first mile or two with one step section before the Craig Britton trail. The upper section I remember is steep heading back up, and tiring. It's easy to head out too far as the surface is good, and the descent pulls you along. There are three parking lots on skyline, I'd suggest the walk between the southern and middle would be a good out and back with a 3 year old.
I feel that its too inclined for a 3 yr old. Unless someone is carrying the kid, also i have not completed the trail myself, only 2-3 miles is what i cover and then return It definitely is longer than that
