The park was obtained in two phases. In 1946, Frank L. Tou Velle gave the state of Oregon 35.29 acres for park purposes, and, in 1964, an additional acreage was purchased from the Tou Velle estate. The park is a relatively flat tract of land on both sides of the Rogue River at Bybee Bridge. It is partly tree-covered in oak and poplar and is developed for day use.

Comes from peacefulness of the River. Back then, the left side was free to go in. the river split. and cost 2 dollars on the right side,we had more fun on the free side. my mom and me always had fun. then my mom would yell out that we had to pack up and go. after all day only 2 dollars. people paid money for the other side 2 dollars. i think.we had a dog but he was nice . was to protect me from strangers . nice. she wanted me to have only good times at the river. she was always trying to find me. always playing all the way where she looked.and i said ok okay ma d d and we left. then back again til summees e
