No overnight camping. Newport beach cops are Nazis . however go up the coast to Huntington Beach and there is an overnight place there .how much im not sure.also south of Laguna Beach doheny beach os a great place to camp as well.enjoy and good luck

Yes, the NPPD are pretty hardcore, BUT I have seen people park in other Newport parking lots overnight. But they will run your plates, and as long as you are not obvious, if they come back neg. after the plate check (no, I don't recommend hanging out in lawn chairs after 10p, or running your generator) they usually move on unless you give them a reason to stop. That said, last time I checked, there were two areas to park in at the base of the Balboa Pier: one that uses "meters", and the other is in the pay parking lot. I have parked in the pay parking lot many times overnight for fishing trips, so I think that, as just mentioned, if you don't attract any attention you won't be bothered (read ALL the signs and obey them!!). The only caveat being that it's expensive. There's no getting around the expensive part. If you park at the metered spots, you used to be able to park for free after 6p, as long as you leave before the meters start again. YMMV, I've reached my character limit.
