Last time we tried to visit early April but passes were closed so we didn't make it. This time we will again be coming in from Lees Ferry. Should that road be open by early May? We don't want to be disappointed twice. Allan and Shona (New Zealand)

North Rim is open May 15th to October 15 usually.

And sometimes if there has been a heavy snow season they may be late opening May 15. This year we went June 11 and there was still snow on the side of the road in the higher areas.

The answer that drives the roads being open is the weather. Contact Park Rangers every few days to inquire. They don't mind it's their job to insure safe passage
