Ok, so I'm a little confused! There's the Hollywood Hills and the Hollywood Sign but how are they different exactly? I mean the Hollywood Sign sits on a Hill, right. Please, don't take any offence if my question sounds ignorant to you etc.

The sign is a sign that spells out Hollywood. Hollywood Hills is a neighborhood in the hills above Hollywood. :) The sign is also near Lake Hollywood, which is near one trailhead that will take you behind the sign and also past the wisdom tree. You can also be in front of the sign but further away up Beachwood.:)

The thing not to be confused with is the difference between Mount Hollywood and the peak where the sign actually stands. I hiked from the Griffith Observatory, with that confusion in mind. Once I made it to Mount Hollywood in about an hour, I realized I was miles away from the sign. I still went ahead and took the hike behind the sign, which was incredibly worth the effort! Took 2 extra hours though. However, you can access the sign much quicker starting from the Hollywoodland neighborhood. Hope this helps.

The Hollywood hills is a neighborhood in Hollywood. The Hollywood sign is on a hill, in Griffith Park so there are hiking trails to it. The sign overlooks Hollywood.
