I've heard there are mountain lions (and possibly bears?) in this area. As a solo hiker, how scared should I be?

Yeah I agree with Angelique. No bears but rare mountain lions and more common coyotes. I'd also check for ticks (during tick season) after visiting. Additionally, make sure you know what poison oak looks like since it's everywhere. But don't let that discourage you - lots of beautiful birds and wildlife here including deer and turkeys. Loved this park since I was a kid. Enjoy your trip!

There are no bears and mountain lion sightings are extremely rare. However, there is a decent population of coyotes and the occasional rattlesnake. I would just carry pepper spray but don't be too worried.
