Age old question: I own a Windham Weaponry AR 10, receiver stamped as .308 win. Can I fire 7.62x51 (NATO) rounds through it? Also, I own a Mossberg bolt action MVP Precision, receiver stamped as 7.62x51. Can I fire .308 win through it?

There has been much debate on this as well as the interchange ability of the 5.56 & 223 Remington. Long story short yes you can shoot the 7.62x51 in the 308 Winchester, but it is not recommended to fire the 308 Winchester in a 7.62x51 NATO chamber for the same reason as not firing the 5.56x45 NATO in the 223 Remington chamber (they are opposite each other) as there is a potential of an over chamber pressure issue. To recap: 7.62 NATO in 308 Winchester or 223 Remington in 5.56 NATO is safe. 308 Winchester in 7.62 NATO or 5.56 NATO in 223 Remington is NOT safe
