Dave, if they're charging you $50.00 for doing a UA, you need to walk. All the places I've applied to over the years, have paid for it themselves. When you encounter something like that in the future, walk.
Northwest Traffic Control is one of the few companies that offer a "second chance" to those that may have made mistakes in their past and want to better themselves. Flagging companies also have one of the highest employee turnover rate. Why should the company face the bill for the initial UA? You also get your money back after a period of time. There are also people that want to get hired, assuring that they can pass the UA.....company pays and BAM!!!! Positive results.....most companies today do not want to "flush that money down the toilet"....pardon the pun....
I work for NWTCI and just FYI they seal your $50.00 in an envelope and after 90 days of employment they give the sealed envelope with the same $50.00 right back to you, just think of it as an incentive to not leave the company after that first really good paycheck.
And they have a new policy where they require the testing facility to watch you
