I would like to take my granddaughters swimming in the Eel River, as I did as a kid - 50+ years ago. We accessed the river somewhere near Myers Flat. Is that still possible? What might be our parking and access point(s) to walk in to the river?

There is access to the river. If you stop by the visitor center they have maps. Also across from the visitor center there are trails and one leads to the river. Nice bridge you can walk across and sandy area. Also there was a place where you could drive your car to the water. Some trails access is closer to the north end of the trail. Hope that helps a bit.

One of the best places to go is just North of Burlington campground just before the bridge take a left you can drive right down to the river it's a great swimming spot
