Good afternoon, we're sorry to hear you were having trouble getting a hold of us. We are still struggling to fix some phone system malfunctions resulting from a lightening strike to our phone system. Our staff are also away from their desks a lot caring for the animals and assisting the public but we try to return phone calls as we get them.
How far away from Ulmerton and Starkey in Largo are you? Best suggestion is to either go there or try their website. A lot of answers can be found on the website - animals at the shelter up for adoption, their cost for adoption, hours of operation (closed Mondays, Tues-Fri they open @ 1 and Sat & Sun earlier) but there's a lot to see. Going to the facility, you can see the animal you are interested in, a volunteer can place you in a room or space to see how you and let's say a dog bond with each other. Then a counselor helps you through the adoption process. The one thing you will see is that the # of people working vs phones ringing, people visiting the shelter, and things going on, you will understand the delay in returned calls or dropped calls. Emails from the website works well, too. What is to definitely be taken away is the care and safety of the animals is a priority. I got my third dog from them the day after Thanksgiving. They always need volunteers!
Usually they will call back within 24 hours if this helps...
