Yes unfortunately because of puppy mills, pet stores that sell dogs and cats, irresponsible lazy pet owners that don't spay and neuter. Bakeyard breeders, Dogfighting groups that breed, lack of laws to eliminate these problems. Societies throw away mentally, all the ignorance about the financia cost, mental, physical and emotional needs of these sentient beings, massive cruelty, abuse and neglect, are a few of the reasons the kill shelters reach maximum capacity. Unable to accommodate to all the needs of the dogs coming in. Not enough room or personnel to care for them. It is also a misconception that any animal can live caged without the emotional physical and psychological needs to bond with humans. This causes animals deep depression and behavioral disorders. Incredible amount of anxieties and fears. So yes if society realized the true needs of these sentient beings they would understand humanely euthanizing it's a peaceful ending to their suffering.
