How much does it cost to give up dog?

Hi, I am a volunteer at SPCA Suncoast. The surrender fee for a dog is $50. The dog must be spayed/neutered, be heartworm negative, and be up to date on vaccines (Rabies and distemper). Owner should contact us and we will accept the dog subject to a behavioral evaluation to ensure it is adoptable. We take in owner surrenders whenever we have room, and we work hard to adopt out our dogs quickly so we have room to assist the community with rehoming pets who need it.

I'm not sure. The last time I asked that question I was told that it was easier to just leave them after hours.
