Jace Stensesen, it is actually called deadmans cove because that is where the bodies of dead sailors would wash up after their ships sunk right off shore
Its closed because it's too dangerous. If you get hurt down there nobody can help you due to the sleep cliff paths. Hence the name, dead man's cover. I asked the coast guards
I think it's been officially closed for a while. There isn't a path that is safely maintained to get there. Having said that, a local told me to just ignore the signs and go down. I saw a few other people down there.
It wasn't when I went a few weeks ago. The lighthouse is closed though.
