Can I release some mice there as an alternative to using poison or death traps and disposing them in the garbage? Seems this would be a humane way to get rid of mice from the home while providing food sources for wildlife at the reserve.

There are plenty of food sources already at the refuge. There is no need to add more that could introduce a virus or bacteria that is not there. It is already an off balance habitat.

Please don't do that. Mice compete with native species for food and shelter. You can contact the Audubon Society of Portland for advice. Maybe their Wildlife Care Center would be interested.
