Many people still believe that Galloping Gertie and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (TCN) are the same structure. The confusion may stem from the fact that both bridges bore the name, "Tacoma Narrows Bridge." Additionally, many people mistakenly assume that the east & west "new" bridges are both "modern." Actually, the current West bound bridge that replaced the ill-fated "original" bridge, was built (completed) in 1950. The eastbound bridge was completed in 2007, 50+ years later.
The original bridge was replaced and there are two bridges now
No problems noe
The original bridge built in 1938 and finished in 1940 would move vertically when wind speeds would approach or exceed 40 miles per hour. It was named galloping gerdy due to this. Attempts were made to stablize the bridge but months after the bridge opened it collapsed into the puget sound. The problems were first noted during the construction of the bridge.
Never any problems on there. Narrows is beautiful.
