Hi, my driftwood in the aquarium is turning black, do I need to pitch it or what? Thank you and big fan! Got your fish stickers on my aquarium.

its normal for dritwood to leech tannins into the water and cause what is known as 'black water', Boil the wood first if you dont want it leeching onto your aquarium, feel free to look it up 😁

Hi Billie, as Reinhart already explained, driftwood will in most cases release tannins into the water causing a blackwater appearance. When this happens it can affect your pH in the aquarium as well. There are products available for purchase that will temporarily clear and buffer the water for you if boiling is not an option. Not everyone has a pot large enough to boil some pieces of driftwood. Hope this helps.
