I do not work at the humane society, but I live down the street and the last year when I thought I couldn't take care of my cat, I took her there to surrender her because I was going through pretty hard times so I took her to the humane society, explained my situation, they were very professional, empathetic, knowledgeable of their job and never passed judgement. So I'd suggest you take your dog in to them, explain your situation and they will take care of you. It also made me feel better because they explained to me that they no longer euthanize animals. Fortunately I was able to keep my cat though. but if I had to surrender her I wouldn't have felt too bad because I know that eventually she would have found a home. Good luck and God Bless...
