They are no-kill, which means they do not euthanize simply because an animal has been there for awhile. They will euthanize out of medical necessity.
Had a boxer hit in front my house. Hurt pretty badly. Had to call animal control as I didn’t not want to move him and risk further injuring him. They took him here. Called the next morning they said he had surgery and was recovering. Called next day and they said he was set to be euthanized next day for showing “aggression” during feeding. I found a rescue who would come pick him up and give him the time he needed to recover fully and be adopted out. They said they would work in his aggression which was likely due to fear of waking up out of surgery and not knowing or understanding what was happening. However by the time I called them they had already put him down “first thing that morning” never again will I take an animal there. Never. They do kill when they feel like it.
We work hard every day to make sure we're giving every animal that comes through our doors a chance at finding happiness. We don't euthanize animals because they have been with us too long, or if we have too many. We only consider euthanasia in two situations. 1. An animal is terminally ill, in pain or suffering. Our veterinary staff works hard to provide the best medical care possible, but if there's nothing that a vet can do to make an animal comfortable and that animal no longer has a quality of life, and no realistic chance of recovery then euthanasia may be the kindest option. 2. Behavior that is dangerous to public safety. Our in house behaviorists and our external partners work hard to socialize animals and will often devote months to trying to help animals adapt but if an animal would be a threat to people, other animals, or themselves in a home environment, then we must consider euthanasia. This is a last resort and only undertaken with the agreement of our ethics committee.
