Depending on the 12 year olds maturity level they may like watching a glass blowing demo up close... otherwise the museum would be pretty boring for a kid.
I believe they have special events for children, perhaps not specifically 12:y/os. Would recommend calling museum for schedule.
Education is one of their main goal. I have been there when large groups of middle School age kids were getting tours. Contact the museum directly to inquire.
I think that they have classes for kids. Contact them and they'll fill you in.
