You have a couple options as the causeway has a couple little beaches but your best bet would be Ft Myers Beach or Sanibel/Captiva which are beautiful.
Not sure what a "real beach" means to you, but Sanibel/Captiva is about 10-12 munutes, Ft. Myers about 20 minutes, Pink Shell Beach about 15 minutes Bowman's Beach, Sandalfoot and several others
About 20 minutes, just depends on traffic and parking
