The gulf islands national seashore is a group of barrier islands (a broken up cape). Water color varies with light condition & water depth over the white sand .
The beach is across the bridge Ft walton and destin.. And the water is actually a emerald green and blueish color
All the beaches are an hour & a half away from the visitor center. I dont understand why all the reviews for this place, are for beaches that are at least an hour or more away :(
The MS side is a bay / bayou, with possible gators. The gulf of Mexico is where you will find 'clear water' and white sand.
There are beaches right there in ocean springs, just a couple miles. If you want CLEAN water you best head for the east/west coasts.
Come down to 98 and head east. All kinds of beaches from Orange Beach to Panama City. All great water and white sandy beaches.
The gulf. The bay there changes with the tide. Sometimes clean and sometime dirty
