The gulf side of the island is the most beautiful water I've ever seen! You can swim on either side, the barrier or the gulf. Not nasty at all!
The beach is maintained to perfection. If you are renting a condo or suite in one of several Hotels which are all interconnected by bridges, sky walkways and boardwalks, beautiful Cabana Shade Umbrellas and beach lounge chairs are available for rental for half-day, whole day. Right on white sand beach, yards from the surf. The nine days our family of twelve, five grandchildren were guests, the ocean side was wonderful, very windy as to creating dangerous rip tides on four days. Life gaurds professional locals who are well staffed and know the ocean very well. If àny dangerous situations prevail, colored warning flags are posted in very visible area's. On days when rip tides were not problem several hundreds of people, including small children where playing in the surf, wading out to breakers, a lot of surfers
My friend who lives there told me there's too much bacteria in the water for swimming.
There are no beaches here. The entire park is a bayou. The pictures & reviews are all very missleading
Depends. If you have a weakened immune system then no, you should not swim or touch the water.
