Elaine, We have many photos of the keepers' house over the years and I have none that show a large porch. The oldest was taken right after construction in 1880 and the front porch is as it appears today. The back stairs from the assistant keeper's quarters empty onto an enclosed porch of about 8 x 15 feet and that may have been an open area at some point.
My friend recalled that there was a large porch on the house when she stayed there in 1944. Could she be remembering wrong?
Funds allowed the current keeper’s dwellingto be constructed in 1880 and the exterior of the limestone tower to be covered with stucco and painted white, but the Lighthouse Board continued to insist that a new tower was needed. The keeper’s dwelling had seven rooms and a cellar and served as housing for the head keeper and an assistant, a position added to the station in 1903.

Are the online hours for the lighthouse itself or is that for the museum. Does the lighthouse close?
