You can take a chance for an open spot or you call call ahead and reserve a site. We always reserve ahead befor driving down and its one of our favorite Camp Grounds.
Best to reserve a campsite.
I've been twice and both times there were still open spots at the end of the day.
There were plenty of open spots when we visited here but I am not sure about other times of the year
