No appointment necessary, but highly recommended. It will make it more enjoyable and so much quicker to get in.
Order your tickets online because if you try it in person, there's a good chance you will need to wait to be able to go in. Yesterday would have been a 3 hour wait (although I think that is unusual)

You can walk up and get them but when we went we had to wait for the next session. So if you can I would get them online.
Kind of. They have set times for entry online. It is highly recommended to purchase your tickets online to cut down on wait time. But if you don't purchase online, they do have booths open for purchase of tickets.
You can buy tickets online and just go. Although when we were there a few of weeks ago the online ticket purchase was down and we just walked up to the ticket booth and purchased tickets.
Last I knew you could buy tickets online and they limit the number of people in.
