Ask about pricing before the exam! I spent $459 on a contact lens exam and for a bunch of “extras” that I thought was covered but they weren’t. I feel misled by Rx or MyEyeDr or whatever this place is now. Please beware consumers!

Fumbling, blind and alone. Lost. I hear the voice of an angel from the doorway beckoning me inside. Words from a voice so sweet they would make a humble man cry. "Michael? 510pm appointment?" Ellie helped me through the door. Offered me a bottle of sanitizing solutions to wash the grime away. She then took my failing optics away and ushered me to another room. An amalgamation was placed upon my face. As quick as " number 1 or number 2, number 2 or number 3" we were done. Dr. Helms was amazing! I was then fitted with the latest of fashionable wear at a price that was too good to compare. As matter of fact 3 pair! I did not know this was a thing! This is a possibility! Not one or two but three pairs! As affordable as possible! Ones for daytime, ones for night, and even a pair when it is unbearably bright. Mirror coatings, polycarbonate lens, and transitions! Blue. Light. Filter! Can you imagine these wonderful things? This was me in human form, do you see? Trying them on I was changing, do you see? Wearing my new Eyewear I am transformed, do you see? I have the confidence of a red dragon.

I have had good experiences at other Rx Optical locations, but this location has been terrible. Yesterday I took off work early for my scheduled eye exam. I came in and they told me that they couldn't find my file in their new computer system. The older lady helping me (I don't remember her name) was fairly rude – asking if I was even at the correct location. Another employee, I believe it was Sarah, helped put my file in the new system. Sarah did apologize and explained that they were having problems with their new system and have lost some patients / appointments recently. She did not offer any compensation and I was forced to re-schedule my appointment for weeks later. I really needed that appointment time to get my new sets of contacts before the end of the month. I just don't understand how anyone can treat a customer this way. Turning someone away who had an appointment walking in here – because of THEIR problem! I should have been able to get an appointment that same day. I have gone to Rx Optical for many years, but I definitely consider switching to another company with how I was treated. I'm certainly not going to this location any more!

I am new to the Grand Rapids area and rely on reviews when picking locations. I will not go back to this location. Maybe it was an off day, but the eye doctor misdiagnosed both of my eyes making getting my prescription fixed in my contacts and two sets of glasses super annoying. I ended up getting the prescription fixed at the Knapps location - wayyy better location if you ask me. Girls at the front desk were friendly and helpful though which is the reason it got more than one star.
