That's exactly right--woodcock. The story behind the name is that back before La Becasse was a French restaurant, it was Woodcock's Family Restaurant. When the O'Neill's bought the restaurant and converted it to a French restaurant, they kept the family name, Woodcock, translated into French. It has now been La Becasse going on 40 years.
It's a bird - a woodcock I believe. There's also a famous Bordeaux vineyard named for the bird - the wonderful wine is always available at the restaurant.
