I've been going there off and on for 15+ years. Prefer to go mid to late June, better water levels and not so hot. Also recommend doing the upper float where you bus up and float to camp. The lower float past NRO gets pretty busy and crowded, plus the water gets a lot cooler once you go past where Bennett Spring merges in. Upper is much more relaxing!
Yes, it was fairly slow and lots of fun.
For the most relaxing float, avoid the weekend and use a raft. If it rains and the river is up, you dont have to worry about tipping your canoe if there is debris or any faster moving water in the raft vs a canoe.
We went in September, it was great, and went trout fishing to.
I prefer June. It seemed more relaxed than in July. But it depends on the weather to a certain degree as well. I'm 60. My daughter and I have been to Riverfront 2 years in a row. We're making it a yearly thing. The campgrounds are beautiful and spacious. They always have a great group of people to help.
Yes it is and you can opt to rent rafts for even a mellower trip
