My elderly mother with cancer has a prescription for opioids. With the new law in effect in Illinois today, will she be able to bring in her prescription to trade for marijuana products or will we still need to procure a card for her?

I think you'll still need a card, but I would call them to check.

FYI... it took exactly 90 days from the day the IDPH received my paperwork for me to get my card. Mine was issued in November 2018, right before the new law was announced. PDI has been wonderful to work with. Best of luck!

The doctor can offer a temporary letter for a 3 month period which is renewable if necessary for further pain relief, instead of going on opiods. But that letter has to come from doctor and would be honored at PDI for that length of time. But because of her cancer she can apply for her own med card because she qualifies because she has one of the 41 qualifying conditions.
