It goes to the end of a run, stops, detaches the locomotive, moves it to what would have been the back end, hooks up and heads back the same track. On the way back, they stop for a short time at the Nantahala Outdoor Center.

No. It just goes out about 20 miles on a fairly level track. You don't really see much mountains but you do go by a lake some. Then they pull the engine to the rear of the train and they pull it back. It does stop by a river at a nature station for an hour.
