Proud lake does have an open hunting area rather large, although they recently reduced it slightly.the wildlife biodeversoty of the area is strong, with a pack of coyote. They were about 15 years ago, overpopulated however with the rebound of predators and other natural fixes, I would feel comfortable hunting, but as always have your meat properly field cleaned and then either self test or take it in to have it tested and frozen immediately. This goes for all deer in the upper mid US. I fish there and have never had a problem with fish since 1974. I advise all outdoorsmen to learn how to test food to see if it is safe. They have an overabundance of good self use kits. They this option and always donate any meat you do not use.
They currently advise not to eat the fish, this sign is posted at each fishing area.
